The Kirkland Turn

Recently finished touring with The (beautiful) South. Fronted by husband and wife duo and supported by ' cousin Ian ' on bass, The Kirkland Turn are a down-beat alternative act. They combine the heartfelt, expressive vocals of Daryl with the minimalist and individual drumming style of his new wife Katie. Bound together with haunting trumpet melodies and soulful harmonies they produce a sound both hushed and psalm like with a distinctly jagged edge.

Always busy, The Kirkland Turn write and produce their music in their family home and release it on their own label 'BadJack Recordings'.

What others have to say

"The Kirkland Turn are based around the sublime harmonies of Daryl & Katie Kirkland, bringing a pure and sublimely soulful sensibility to perfectly pitched folk gems. Each song sounds as though it’s rightful place is alongside the classics in your CD collection. "

The Gladstone, London.

"Quirky, Americana reminiscent of the Handsome Family"

Americana UK

“They have an interesting set up: a thirty something singer, a forty something bassist and a teenage girl on drums who – musicians presumably being in short supply in Quorn – doubles up on trumpet. The singer makes the ubiquitous statement that the band has CDs for sale on the front desk, before undercutting himself by adding "and me mum's made some chilli jelly. It's very good, only £2 a jar."

The Guardian

"There’s always seemed to me a curious but passionate love affair between alternative pop and folk music. Thus it comes as little surprise that 'The Kirkland Turn' the superb folk/pop group who I constantly bang on about, redefine brilliant. The intense ragged beauty of Daryl's hallmark voice combined with Katie's underlying brilliance, I'm seriously breathless how great these guys are!"
